Those of you who take the 10 Commandments seriously might want to think twice before attending this month’s TIPS bash. Because at Covet Lounge, there are plenty of temptations: recessed nooks and crannies for private canoodling, oversized mirrors for the vainglorious, and exotic drinks to covet -- like the The Icarus, which includes hand-shaved ice, Iranian saffron oil and Louis XIII cognac. So come join your young alumni friends for an indulgent descent into luxury and taste -- before grad schools start up in September and everyone starts wearing frumpy track suits again.
Metromix raves about Covet, “The nightlife no-man's-land in Midtown East just got a little classier. Club guru Eric Milon takes an intimate approach with this subterranean space on East 55th Street. Though this may surprise nightlife junkies—his former NYC haunt was mega-club Mansion—cool kids looking for an night on the town will love the sexy décor (was that zebra fur?) and darkened nooks that populate the space. The club king also tries to get away from boring bottle service. The spot enlisted bartender Orson Salicetti to gussy up their list. He honed his chops at downtown's Apotheke, and the drink selections are full of creative touches (it may not have been zebra fur, but that was a piece of grilled octopus garnishing your drink). The superb sound system and top 40 tunes will keep chic crowds from having to head all the way downtown to party.”

Maritime Hotel
6.29.10 | Maritime Hotel -- It was official: Change was coming to New York. The financial regulation bill was due to land on Obama's desk by Independence Day, and we were betting that all that newly-mandated financial transparency would prove a major buzz-kill on parts of Wall Street. So to keep the mood buoyant and sprightly, we planted our flag on the gorgeous roof deck of the South Cabana at the Maritime Hotel. This open-air space has been awarded all manner of 'Best Roofdeck' awards in city publications. It was the perfect place to trot out your old CDOs and other sketchy derivatives and give them one last airing before they were needed as outhouse wallpaper.

The Hudson
5.18.10 | The Hudson -- Were these the End Times? Were those the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse galloping down Broadway? Well you Wall Street'ers seemed to think so -- what with Big-Bad-Obama trying to take away your CDOs and all...So if this was the end of the gravy train for de-regulated derivatives, it was definitely time to live it up bit before ya'll had to start being, you know, responsible. And wed had the place, too: Hudson Hotel -- that of the massive yellow neon wall, indoor park and wet library. A fitting symbol for an age of extravagance. We came out and enjoyed it. While you still could. Click on any of the thumbnails below to launch a photo slideshow.

230 Fifth
4.20.10 | 230 Fifth -- Now that it finally got warm enough to socialize outside at night without wearing arctic expedition gear, TIPS took it outdoors: We set up shop at 230 Fifth, whose rooftop garden is consistently voted as the best in New York. If you were huddling inside your apartment all winter, or if you felt stifled by the oppressive heat of basement dance halls, it was time for you to head up to the roof, take in the eye-dropping view, and kick back with some friends old and new. Because we had about six seconds before the onset of the sweltering summer.

Tenjune
3.31.10 | Tenjune -- Ok, Ok. So New York saw the downfall of both its governor and its longest-serving congressman in the same week. But wasn't all doom-and-gloom: the city's unemployment rate tumbled from 10.5% to 10.4%. That's point-one percent! Time to break out the bubbly and party! And boy, did TIPS have the venue for you: Tenjune -- that famously impossible-to-get-into Meatpacking district fixture. We celebrated a changing of the political guard and a return to new economic optimism in a place so sizzling that even its website is not-safe-for-work. And, oh ... about the club's name: Its two owners share a birthday on June 10th. So there. Click on any of the thumbnails below to launch a photo slideshow.

Marquee
2.24.10 | Marquee -- February is the month when Cupid unsheathes his longbow and goes looking for targets. Did you make his short-list? Well, you upped your chances by attending the TIPS party at Marquee -- a place with such flattering lighting that even pallid, pasty New York winter skin looks downright Malibu. It was ten days after Valentine's Day, so we're guessing there was a lot of low-hanging fruit with Cupid hangovers still on the vine.

La Pomme
1.20.10 | La Pomme -- The dawning of a new decade offered plenty of opportunities for re-invention: new fads, new haunts, new friends. We changed up all three at TIPS' first party of 2010. We held court at La Pomme, the brand-spanking-new Chelsea club that sports edgy, avant-garde art and thrilling sonic soundscapes. We sampled the new space while tossing back a few cocktails with some new friends. New York keeps re-inventing itself; and you did, too! Greenhouse
12.14.09 | Greenhouse -- We kicked off the holiday season by giving a little something back: No, we didn't return our bonuses. Instead, we gave something back to Mother Earth -- by reveling at Greenhouse, New York City's first green night club. The banging sound system was powered by wind-powered electricity; the eye-popping visual displays were made from LEDs, the staff's outfits were fashioned out of eco-friendly material made by Bono's wife. Here, every cocktail you buy was a vote for a greener future. Click on any of the thumbnails below to launch a photo slideshow.

Cain Luxe
11.19.09 | Cain Luxe -- We know, we know: It was freakishly cold this month. Leaving your apartment was like gearing up for Everest base camp without a sherpa. But TIPS provided refuge in Africa – errr, an African-themed club, that is. We de-thawed with our fellow alumni at Cain Luxe, the closest you can get to a savannah on the far west side in November.

The Griffin
10.21.09 | The Griffin -- In New York, the return of autumn -- and the return of the well-heeled from the Hamptons -- usually means a return to job hiring. Maybe not so much this year. But look on the bright side: there's a great new word making the rounds that’s turning unemployment on its head: funemployment. It means having a good time with your down time. We had a chance to try it out on your fellow young alumni at the October TIPS party at The Griffin. And if that didn't work, we could always paraphrase Homer Simpson as we raise a toast: "To Wall Street: The cause of, and solution to, all life’s problems." The Gates
9.29.09 | NYC: The Gates -- Just about every university has a famous gate somewhere on campus, so it seemed apt that this September, TIPS invited you to pass through The Gates and head back to school to mix and connect with Ivy Plus young alums. Through The Gates, we found an evening of connecting, conversation, (and of course cocktails) with a group of dynamic Ivy Plus peers. Click on the thumbnails below to see all the pictures!
NY: The Hotel Gansevoort
8.24.09 | The Hotel Gansevoort -- For our August TIPS party, we headed skyward and turned our faces up to the cool breezes streaming over the Gansevoort’s roof deck bar and lounge. There was no better way to slip into the week than a rooftop cocktail and some connecting with our favorite Ivy Plus alums – new and old. Whether you were there to network your way to a new date, job, or deal – or just coming to soak up the NYC skyline and share a laugh with our old school friends – hopefully this gorgeous setting did you right.
The Park
7.22.09 | The Park -- The TIPS fun continued this July with our play date at The Park Penthouse. Alumni friends new and old enjoyed the rooftop views over cocktails while making new connections and scattering cards hither-and-thither around the July night. Perhaps the party brought you a new partner, capital source, date, or friend… but at the very least, we hope it delivered smiles, laughs, and a chance to show off those fab new (shoes/cards/jacket/pick-up lines…). Maritime Hotel
6.23.09 | Maritime Hotel -- The Maritime Hotel Cabanas were the perfect setting for a night of networking-mingling-laughing-cocktailing – aka, a signature TIPS night. NYC alums filled the summer night with smiles matching the venue’s tropical-themed, open-air easy-breezy feel. Any good stories from the night? Fabulous connections, dates, gossip-worthy ‘Spotted!’ moments? Email us with your fave tales from the night. Click on the thumbnails below to see the rest of the night’s pearly whites and see you next month at The Park!

Kiss and Fly
05.20.09 | Kiss and Fly -- Thanks for making our NYC TIPS Launch Party such a success! The inaugural TIPS NYC class is definitely headed for a fun season. 500 fabulous Ivy Plus Society alums turned out to cocktail-network-laugh the night away at the Meatpacking's latest star: Kiss and Fly. Disco balls bobbed, digits flew, cards were exchanged, and the first TIPS NYC night zoomed by. Thanks to Beautyfix.com for supplying the brimming party favors for the night. Click on any of the thumbnails below to check out the smiles of the night in our event pics slideshow. Look forward to catching everyone at our next party at the Maritime Cabanas!
